Spear

⚔️

The spear is a two-handed reach weapon that provides the longest effective range of any melee weapon category, allowing Kliff to deal melee damage from a distance that keeps him outside most standard enemy swing arcs. This range advantage is most pronounced against enemies whose melee attacks have short-to-medium reach — large proportions of Pywel's standard enemy roster — and becomes a significant survival advantage in fights where maintaining distance reduces incoming damage without requiring defensive inputs.

The spear's thrust-based attack pattern differs from the broad arc attacks of swords and greatswords. Its combo sequences consist primarily of straight-line thrusts with high reach, occasionally punctuated by sweeping attacks with more limited range but wider coverage. Players who prefer the spear need to manage their positioning more carefully than greatsword users — the thrust pattern requires facing the enemy directly and maintaining the correct distance for the reach advantage to function, whereas the greatsword's arc is more forgiving of positioning imprecision.

Spears excel against single large enemies — bosses and elite enemies whose hitboxes are large enough that the thrust's limited arc is not a practical limitation. The reach advantage means Kliff can continue attacking during the boss's recovery animations from positions that a shorter weapon would not reach, extending the damage window per cycle significantly. Several boss fights in Crimson Desert are designed with terrain features that spear reach takes particular advantage of, rewarding players who read the encounter geometry before committing to a weapon choice.

When combined with the Axiom Bracelet's lightning infusion, the spear becomes one of the most effective elemental stagger weapons in the game. Each thrust applies lightning buildup to the target, and the spear's speed in normal attack mode means the stun threshold is reached faster with lightning-spear than with slower weapons using the same element. The range advantage means Kliff can apply this stun pressure from safety, then close for a follow-up heavy strike once the stun triggers.
