The Abyss Guide
Everything you need to know about The Abyss, Crimson Desert's supernatural sixth dimension. Witches, sanctums, Abyss Nexus fast travel, and the White Crow.
What is The Abyss?
The Abyss is a supernatural parallel realm of floating islands suspended in an infinite void of deep violet and black, connected by luminous arcane bridges. It exists as a sixth dimension above the five physical regions of Pywel. The alchemist Alustin, keeper of the Library of Providence, reveals to Kliff that a great cosmic chaos threatens all worlds, the central supernatural conflict of Crimson Desert.
How to Access The Abyss
The Abyss is reached via the Abyss Nexus fast travel system. There are three types of Nexus nodes: Abyss Nexus stepping stone plates (simplest), Abyss Cressets (require solving puzzles or trials), and Camp Fast Travel points (available later). The Abyss is fully unlocked by progressing through the witch questlines.
The Five Witches
Five witches are scattered across Pywel, each serving as a bridge between the physical world and the Abyss. They are: Elowen (Witch of Wisdom, Hernand), Sylvia (Hermit Witch), Bari (Witch of Kindness, Pailune), Lyselia (Witch of Humility), and Areciel (Witch of Strength). Each witch is found through exploration: Elowen via rescue mission in the Witchwoods, Sylvia through a letter from White Crow, Bari by lighting a specific brazier in Pailune.
Sanctums
Each witch has associated sanctums, 15 in total, spread across all regions. Sanctums are ancient ruins overtaken by the Antumbra: hostile forces that combine combat and environmental puzzles. Completing all of a witch's sanctums earns her Witch's Token. All five Witch's Tokens are required to access the White Crow.
Abyss Gear
Elowen enables Abyss Gear socketing after being rescued. Abyss Gear are rune-like items that slot into weapons and armor to provide elemental bonuses and powerful modifiers. They are obtained primarily from Sealed Abyss Artifact challenges scattered across all five regions.
