Snorlax
Wild Snorlax on the island are, like Mosslax, occupying a specific ecological niche that involves sleeping in places that other Pokémon then have to navigate around. Unlike Mosslax, wild Snorlax are more recently established — they arrived as the island's food sources recovered enough to support something that needs to eat 400 kilograms of food daily before it can sleep.
Mosslax and the Wild Population
Mosslax is a named character — an individual Snorlax who has been on the island long enough to grow a flower on its head. Wild Snorlax are more recent arrivals, drawn by the recovering ecosystem. The contrast between a Snorlax who has lived through the island's decline and the new arrivals who know only the recovery is one of Pokopia's quieter background narratives.
Role in Pokopia
Wild Snorlax appear in areas with adequate food sources — well-developed habitats with berry plants, near Combee populations, in the fruiting sections of the island's recovered forests. They eat, then sleep. The sleeping spots they choose gradually accumulate plants and small creatures who find shelter near them — Snorlax as accidental habitat creator.
Pokémon Notes
Normal-type from Generation I. Snorlax is the franchise's iconic obstacle Pokémon, blocking roads and requiring specific items to move. In Pokopia, the obstacle aspect is softened: Snorlax are large and in the way, but navigating around them is part of the island's texture rather than a puzzle to solve.
