Tangrowth
The wild Tangrowth on the island are distinct from Professor Tangrowth the character — they're Grass-types in the same way any island Tangrowth would be, large and vine-covered and less focused than the Professor on the philosophical dimensions of island restoration. But they share the species' fundamental quality: something that grew slowly over time and accumulated the world's texture.
The Species vs. the Character
Professor Tangrowth is a specific individual with history and investment in the island. Wild Tangrowth are the same species, found in areas with established, mature vegetation — they require old-growth plant cover, not fresh Leafage seedlings, which means they appear later in the game when the island's plant ecosystem has had time to develop depth.
Role in Pokopia
Wild Tangrowth appear in mature forests and well-developed habitat areas, their vines integrated with the surrounding vegetation. They're slow and patient and seem content to let the island grow around them. Whether any of the wild Tangrowth know Professor Tangrowth personally is a question the game doesn't answer but implicitly raises.
Pokémon Notes
Grass-type from Generation IV, the evolved form of Tangela. Known for exceptionally high HP and for a physical design that is difficult to read — Tangrowth's actual body is entirely hidden by its vines, which means its face, if it has one in the conventional sense, is somewhere inside all that.
