Professor Tangrowth

Professor Tangrowth is the first character you meet in Pokémon Pokopia and, for a while, the only company you have. A wise, vine-draped Tangrowth who has watched the island slowly go empty over the years, they greet Ditto with a mix of relief and purpose — there is a lot of work to do, and they are not getting any younger.

Role in the Game

Professor Tangrowth fills the mentor archetype that Pokémon games love — think Professor Oak but woven entirely from plant matter and island patience. They explain the core mechanics: how habitats attract Pokémon, how Ditto can learn moves through friendship, how the island's environment level rises as more life returns to it. Their tutorials are woven into early quests and feel earned rather than dumped on you.

Beyond tutorial duty, Tangrowth carries genuine attachment to the Withered Wasteland. Every blade of new grass, every returning Pokémon, visibly delights them. That emotional investment makes the early hours of restoration feel meaningful rather than mechanical.

Species Notes

Tangrowth is a Grass-type Pokémon from the Sinnoh region, known in the mainline games for high HP and solid Special Defense. In Pokopia, those physical traits translate into a character who feels immovable and dependable — a root system around which the whole island's story grows.
