Faded Abyss Artifact

๐ŸŽ’

Faded Abyss Artifacts represent the intermediate tier of Abyss-derived collectibles โ€” objects that once held significant magical charge but have partially discharged over time, typically because they were separated from their source or because the entity associated with them was weakened. Visually, they retain the crystalline structure of a fully charged Sealed artifact but their luminescence is dimmer and occasionally flickering, as though the remaining energy is struggling to maintain coherence.

In the crafting system, Faded Artifacts occupy a middle position between the abundant base-tier artifacts and the rare Sealed variety. Several mid-game equipment upgrade recipes use Faded Artifacts as primary components rather than substitutes, meaning players who want to keep pace with content difficulty in Chapters 5 through 8 need to actively seek out Faded Artifacts rather than relying on base-tier abundance. The primary sources are Abyss ruins, medium-strength Abyss entities, and specific treasure locations marked on optional exploration questlines.

Faded Artifacts can also be consolidated in the Alchemy Lab โ€” a sufficient quantity of base-tier artifacts processed together produces a Faded Artifact, providing a crafting sink for excess base materials. This conversion rate is intentionally unfavorable compared to finding Faded Artifacts directly, incentivizing exploration over grinding, but it provides a reliable fallback for players who have accumulated large base-tier stockpiles.

The lore descriptions for Faded Artifacts, accessible in the inventory, emphasize their status as echoes of something that was once greater โ€” a thematic resonance with several of the game's major character arcs. Gian's legacy, the Greymanes' recovery, and the diminished state of the Abyss entities after countless conflicts are all variations on the same theme of faded greatness that can either be allowed to continue fading or actively restored.
