Mareep
Mareep is an Electric-type sheep. Its wool accumulates static electricity as it moves, storing charge that eventually transfers into Flaafy's partially-bare form and Ampharos's fully-transformed body. Mareep is full-wooled, full of static, and produces an audible crackling sound when its fleece brushes against things.
Role in Pokopia
Mareep appears in open grassland — the same Tall Grass habitats as Pikachu and Dedenne, but Mareep tends to occupy larger, more exposed open sections. They graze with the steady purpose of an animal that has a job (generating electricity) and is doing it. The faint crackling of a Mareep flock in open grass adds to the island's ambient soundscape.
Pokémon Notes
Electric-type from Generation II. The name is an anagram of 'Ampere' with an extra e, referencing the unit of electrical current. The Mareep-Flaafy-Ampharos line is one of Johto's most coherent thematic arcs: a wooled generator that loses wool as it accumulates electrical potential, ending as a fully transformed lighthouse.
