Bear
The bear is a combat-focused mount that distinguishes itself from other mounts through its autonomous fighting behavior โ bears perform claw swipes, bite attacks, and body slams independently without requiring player input to trigger, effectively doubling the offensive pressure of any combat encounter. When Kliff is mounted on a bear and engaged with an enemy, the bear is simultaneously engaged with the same or nearby enemies, creating a two-front attack that most standard enemies cannot handle simultaneously.
Taming wild bears requires the same approach mechanics as horse taming โ slow approach, mounted persistence through the throw-off sequence โ but bears are found primarily in forested and mountain regions rather than open plains, and their taming difficulty is higher than horses. The larger size and greater aggression of wild bears make the taming sequence more demanding, requiring faster and more precise timing inputs to successfully complete. This difficulty is calibrated to reflect bears' higher combat value: the investment in taming a bear is greater but the return is specifically targeted at combat scenarios.
The bear's autonomous combat behavior operates on a simple AI that prioritizes the nearest threat to Kliff rather than targeting independently. This makes bear combat behavior predictable enough to plan around โ the bear will engage whatever Kliff is engaging, supplementing his attacks without requiring management. Against groups, the bear divides enemy attention between itself and Kliff, reducing the focused pressure on the player and creating openings that standard enemy AI is not designed to handle. Against single elite enemies, the sustained bear damage adds up over the fight's duration.
The bear's primary limitation is its lower land speed compared to horses and raptors, making it suboptimal as a traversal mount for players who prioritize moving quickly between locations. Its value is specifically combat value โ players who frequently engage bandit camps, Abyss-adjacent enemies, and the denser encounter zones of Delesyia and the Crimson Desert region will find a well-tamed bear the superior companion for those activities, while keeping a faster horse for general traversal.
