Paper

🪵

Clean, smooth paper produced from plant fibers and processed Wastepaper, Paper is the refined version of the rough scavenged material — writable, smooth, and suitable for items that need a deliberate, legible, finished appearance rather than a weathered found-object quality. Signs with clear lettering, properly formatted menu boards, and decorative items with an intentional paper element all use Paper rather than Wastepaper, which is the crafting system's way of distinguishing between things that were rescued from decay and things that were made fresh.

Paper is produced through a simple processing step from Wastepaper stock, making it a secondary material rather than a gathered one. This production chain — scavenge Wastepaper, process into Paper, use in precision applications — is a small example of Pokopia's broader resource philosophy: the island provides raw material, and what the player does with it determines how refined the output becomes. Paper-dependent items tend to be the ones that communicate information and intent: boards, signs, and notices that the island's new inhabitants will actually read.
