Pidgey

⚡

Pidgey is the bird. Not a remarkable bird, not a particularly formidable or mysterious bird — just a small Normal/Flying-type that lives in tall grass, eats seeds, and is the first wild Pokémon most players encounter in the original games. On the island, Pidgey serves a similar function: it's the ambient presence that tells you the world is working.

Role in Pokopia

Pidgey appears in Tall Grass habitats from very early in the game. They're among the first species to return when ground cover is established — seed-eaters following the seeds, insect-hunters following the insects. Their calls are one of the first ambient sounds that changes as the island becomes more alive. Before Charizard and Dragonite, before Raikou — there is Pidgey, simply existing in the grass, confirming that the island works.

Pokémon Notes

Normal/Flying-type from Generation I. Evolves into Pidgeotto and Pidgeot. Pidgey is, functionally, the sparrow of the Pokémon world — ubiquitous, unspectacular, essential to the ecological background. Pokopia treats this role honestly.
