Lucian Bastier

Lucian Bastier is the Chapter 8 boss encountered during the "A Fleeting Dream" questline, and his fight is notable primarily because players are forced to engage him as Damiane rather than Kliff. The character switch is unannounced in a way that catches unprepared players off guard, and the fight immediately punishes those who have been ignoring Damiane's skill tree and equipment by requiring mastery of a character they may have barely touched. Lucian Bastier is connected to the political conflict in Demeniss โ€” specifically to Grand General Bastier's faction and the Inquisitors, placing him within the power vacuum storyline that has been building since Chapter 6. His presence in the "Exposed Plot" and "A Fleeting Dream" quest arcs establishes him as an enforcer for the forces opposed to the houses aligned with Kliff and the Greymanes.

Phase 1 of Lucian Bastier is a blocking-focused fight. He consistently defends incoming strikes, making Damiane's Shield Throw (R3) the recommended primary damage source โ€” it can be spammed while maintaining lock-on and deals consistent ranged damage even when he is blocking melee attacks. Exploiting the pillar on the left side of the arena provides high-ground positioning that severely limits his ability to counter-attack. Smiting Bolt at Level 3 (a targeted light-from-above ability that cannot miss and can be spammed) provides additional safe damage during Phase 1. The transition to Phase 2 triggers at the health bar midpoint, at which point Lucian's behavioral pattern changes substantially.

Awakened Lucian Bastier teleports constantly, summons shadow demons (which cannot be damaged and persist for several seconds), and creates clone attacks where spectral versions of him slam the ground before vanishing. Against Awakened Lucian, blocking is insufficient โ€” his attacks target positions too rapidly for effective static defense, and the shadow demons force movement regardless. Dodging sideways in a large circle around him is the core spatial advice: keeping the same radial distance while rotating prevents the teleport-forward attacks from landing cleanly. When he stands still momentarily โ€” the brief pause between teleport chains โ€” quick attacks can connect. His clone slam sequence triggers an invulnerability state during the teleport animation, meaning attack attempts during the clone phase waste resources; the consistent advice is to spam-dodge through clone attacks until he finishes the sequence. His arena positioning provides a notable exploit: going down the stairs or hopping out of the arena causes Lucian to rarely follow, giving Damiane space to reset and engage on more favorable terms.
