Canine Ghost Mech

Overview

The Canine Ghost Mech is a compact, dog-shaped Ghost Mech designed by APAC specifically for rapid pursuit and area denial. Smaller and faster than their humanoid counterparts, Canine Ghost Mechs are typically deployed from larger Mech Gazer carrier units that release them into the field in groups. Their design prioritizes speed and aggression over armor โ€” once a Canine Ghost Mech locks onto Sam, it homes in relentlessly with a movement speed that makes outrunning it difficult without a vehicle. Their small size also makes them harder to track visually in chaotic multi-enemy encounters, adding to the danger they pose in combat.

Behavior

Canine Ghost Mechs move with extreme speed once deployed and will home in on Sam's position immediately upon detection. Their pursuit behavior is relentless โ€” unlike Standard Humanoid Ghost Mechs that maintain patrol routes when Sam is not detected, Canine Ghost Mechs deployed from Mech Gazers are already in a pursuit state and will not stop closing the gap until they are destroyed. Their small profile makes them easier to lose temporarily behind terrain, but they will course-correct quickly. Groups of Canine Ghost Mechs will approach from multiple angles simultaneously when deployed in numbers, making a coordinated defense essential.

The Self-Destruct Threat

The Canine Ghost Mech's most dangerous attribute is its built-in self-destruct device, which detonates on contact with Sam. A Canine Ghost Mech that reaches Sam deals catastrophic damage in an explosion that can be fatal without high health and strong defensive equipment. This self-destruct mechanic transforms the Canine Ghost Mech from a nuisance into a top-priority target in every encounter โ€” allowing even a single Canine to close the gap is an unacceptable risk. This mechanic also means that Canine Ghost Mechs should never be engaged in melee; range is essential when dealing with them.

Combat Strategy

Never allow a Canine Ghost Mech to reach Sam โ€” destroy them at range immediately upon detection, before they close the distance to detonation range. MP weapons with rapid fire are highly effective against Canine Ghost Mechs due to their small size; sustained fire can destroy them before they cover enough ground to pose an immediate self-destruct threat. Electric Rod throws are also effective, disrupting the mech's movement and dealing high damage to its less-armored frame. In encounters where multiple Canine Ghost Mechs are deployed simultaneously, prioritize those that are closest to Sam first and work outward, maintaining distance throughout.

Managing Canines in Group Encounters

Canine Ghost Mechs are most dangerous when deployed alongside Standard Humanoid Ghost Mechs โ€” the humanoid mechs draw attention and create pressure while the Canines approach from flanking angles. In mixed encounters, use BT Holographic Grenades to confuse and distract the Standard Humanoid Ghost Mechs, freeing up attention and firepower to focus on destroying the Canine Ghost Mechs before any of them reach Sam. When a Mech Gazer deploys a group of Canines, dealing with them is the immediate priority over engaging any other threat in the area.

Tips and Tricks

Always scan for Mech Gazers overhead when moving through Ghost Mech territory in Australia โ€” their presence directly signals incoming Canine Ghost Mech deployment. Spotting a Mech Gazer before it deploys gives Sam precious seconds to prepare defensive positioning and ensure MP weapons are ready. Vehicles are an effective tool for staying ahead of Canine Ghost Mechs โ€” their ground speed, while high, cannot match a fast vehicle, allowing Sam to create separation while dealing with them from a distance. Keep ranged MP weapons loaded and immediately accessible in all Ghost Mech zones in anticipation of Canine deployments.
