Enemies Guide

Complete guide to all enemies in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach — BTs, Ghost Mechs, and bosses

BTs (Beached Things)

BTs are souls stranded on the Beach that have seeped back into the physical world. They are invisible to most people but detectable via Sam's Odradek Scanner (linked to Lou). Blood-based weapons deal the most damage to BTs.

Gazers (Adult and Infant): The most common BT. Floating translucent humanoid spirits. Detect prey through sound only; hold breath (R1) and remain still to avoid them. Found in Mexico and Australia.

Watchers: Elite BT variant (Australia, Chapter 3+). Unlike Gazers, Watchers can visually detect Sam. Holding breath is not enough; active stealth movement and cover are required.

Giant Jellyfish BTs: Colossal jellyfish-like BTs floating above Australian coastal areas in large red-and-black clusters. Avoidance strongly recommended.

Ghost Mechs

Ghost Mechs are supernatural mechanical constructs deployed by APAC. They come in several forms:

Standard Humanoid Ghost Mech: Large humanoid units with head-mounted sensors and armored chests. Target exposed flexible limbs and leg joints. Electric Rod is highly effective.

Canine Ghost Mech: Compact dog-like units deployed by larger carrier mechs. Built-in self-destruct; they lock on and detonate when close. Kill them before they close distance.

Blade Ghost Mech: Difficult melee variant with aggressive blade attacks. Maintain distance and use ranged weapons during wind-up animations.

Boss Encounters

Giant Head BT: First major BT boss. Emerges from tar with limited mobility. Target glowing weak points with Blood Grenades. Introduction to BT boss combat.

Giant BT Spider (Crab BT): Colossal crab/spider BT with skyscraper-tall legs. Never stop moving. Target the core body with blood weapons from the Tri-Cruiser.

Giga BT: Secret endgame boss. Incomprehensibly large. Slow movement but near-instant-kill attacks. Target the red bulb weak point with sustained blood weapon fire. Extreme patience required.

Kraken Ghost Mech: Giant red mechanical octopus boss. Deplete tentacle attachment points to expose the core body. Focus on mobility to avoid wide tentacle sweeps.

Headless Rider: Boss commanding motorcycle Ghost Mech escorts. Manage the escort mechs while focusing on the Rider. A glowing blue phase spawns after the first phase is defeated.

General Combat Tips

Always use the Route Simulator before deliveries through enemy zones. Stock blood weapons before any major BT territory. Keep Lou calm to maintain Odradek Scanner function. Against Ghost Mechs, Electric Rod disruption of leg joints creates openings. Non-lethal MP Weapons against humans avoid karma penalties.
