Giga BT
Overview
The Giga BT is the endgame secret boss of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach โ an optional encounter of such incomprehensible scale that it stands as the largest single enemy in the game. Found in the late-game areas of Australia as a secret encounter outside the main story, the Giga BT is a test of everything the player has learned about BT combat, resource management, and positioning over the course of DS2. It is one of the hardest optional encounters in the game, combining near-instant death attacks with a requirement for sustained, focused blood weapon fire over an extended engagement. Only players who have fully prepared and stocked their arsenal should attempt this encounter.
Discovery
The Giga BT is not part of Death Stranding 2's main story campaign โ it is a secret optional encounter hidden in Australia's late-game areas, rewarding exploratory players who push beyond the boundaries of the main narrative path. Finding the Giga BT requires thorough exploration of the more remote sections of the Australian map in the late game. Its presence is telegraphed by distinctive environmental cues that set its zone apart from standard BT territory. The encounter is entirely optional, but defeating it offers a profound sense of accomplishment and represents the true ceiling of DS2's combat challenge.
Attack Patterns
The Giga BT's most terrifying characteristic is that it is one of the few true one-shot threats in Death Stranding 2 โ any attack that connects with Sam is near-instant death, regardless of health state or equipment. Despite this, the Giga BT moves very slowly, giving patients players time to observe and react. The red bulb visible on the creature is its designated weak point, and it must be targeted consistently throughout the fight to deal meaningful damage. The Giga BT's attacks cover enormous areas, and the combination of its massive scale and the one-shot kill threshold means any positioning error is immediately and terminally punished.
Combat Strategy
The Giga BT encounter is fundamentally a test of patience and sustained positioning. The creature's slow movement is the only advantage the player has โ exploit it fully by maintaining maximum safe distance at all times while delivering sustained blood weapon fire to the red bulb weak point. Never stop moving; the Giga BT's slow pace does not mean it is safe to remain stationary, as its attacks cover enough range to punish static positioning. Circle wide around the creature's movement path to stay in the safe zone while keeping the red bulb in range. Hematic Grenades are the highest-value offensive tool โ prioritize their use on the red bulb during clean targeting windows.
Why It Is So Challenging
The Giga BT's difficulty stems from the combination of two factors that individually would be manageable but together create an exceptionally demanding encounter: near-instant death on any hit, and the requirement for sustained, focused offensive effort over an extended fight duration. Most DS2 combat encounters allow some margin for error; the Giga BT does not. Every moment of the fight requires correct positioning, consistent weak point targeting, and resource discipline. This is compounded by the sheer scale of the creature, which makes spatial awareness difficult โ what looks like a safe distance can still be within attack range.
Tips and Preparation
Bring every Hematic Grenade and Blood Grenade you can carry โ the Giga BT fight is a prolonged engagement that will exhaust a poorly-stocked arsenal well before the encounter ends. The Tranq Sniper Rifle is completely ineffective against BTs including the Giga BT; only blood weapons deal damage. Stock Blood Grenades as a secondary offensive option once Hematic Grenades are depleted. The red bulb weak point is the only viable target โ attacks directed at other parts of the Giga BT's body deal negligible or no damage. Plan the approach to the encounter with a full stock of supplies, and do not attempt this fight underequipped.
