Staglord
Saigord the Staglord is an optional boss found at Icemoor Castle Ruins in the Hernand region, accessible through the "Lord Amidst the Ruins" faction quest. He is a fallen king โ a figure who once ruled from a throne and now sits in the ruins of what was his domain, armored in a manner that makes his former status unmistakable: a helm fashioned in the shape of a stag's head serves as his crown, and his sword-and-shield combat style reflects the martial tradition of a warrior king rather than a common soldier. His snowy throne room setting โ the frozen ruins of Icemoor Castle โ surrounds him with the physical evidence of his kingdom's collapse, creating a fight location that functions as environmental storytelling about what he has lost.
His combat style is technically demanding, centered on readable but punishing sword combinations. His signature Expertise Move involves winding his sword behind him for a large overhead slash, immediately followed by a second overhead slash โ a two-hit sequence where the pause between strikes is long enough to encourage premature counter-attacks but short enough to punish those who move too early. His Royal Combo is a three-hit sequence combining wide horizontal slashes, a shield bash (which can knock Kliff down if it connects cleanly), and a strong overhead strike. His Shield Charge is a forward rush that deals knockdown damage but can be interrupted by Kliff's own Shield Charge skill, creating an offensive counter opportunity. Red-glint attacks must be dodged rather than blocked, as they deal high stamina damage that breaks guard consistently.
Force Palm is the recommended primary offensive tool against Staglord, specifically used in a chain: Parry โ Stab โ Heavy Attack โ Force Palm โ Heavy Attack. Successfully executing this full chain staggers him long enough to interrupt his combo initiation and creates a significant damage window. The Watch and Learn mechanic, applied during the fight, can acquire Turning Slash from observing Staglord, and ironically this expertise move is specifically listed as a weakness of Staglord himself โ a deliberate design touch making the skill learned from him his own vulnerability. Ice Resistance Level 5 is required for the frozen environment of Icemoor Castle, as passive cold damage will drain health throughout the fight without it. Rewards for defeating Staglord include the Turning Slash Expertise skill and Staglord's Shield โ both practical and symbolically appropriate, taking the fallen king's weapon and his technique as spoils.
