Tenebrum

💀

Tenebrum is a supernatural puzzle boss encountered in Chapter 4, fought in an open-air plaza in the Abyss that the game has oriented specifically for this encounter's vertical mechanics. The defining rule of the Tenebrum fight is absolute and non-negotiable: standard attacks, weapon strikes, and unarmed combat do nothing. Tenebrum can only be damaged by Force Palm, executed while airborne. This makes the fight less a combat encounter in the conventional sense and more a test of whether players have internalized the Abyss's traversal mechanics and the Force Palm's aerial application — the same skills that have been developed through Abyss exploration sequences throughout the chapters leading to this point.

The mechanical sequence for attacking Tenebrum requires several steps executed in order. Players double-press the jump button to deploy the Crow's Wing, becoming airborne; an updraft generated by the arena itself carries them upward toward Tenebrum's hovering position; once close enough, pressing the Force Palm button executes the strike. Three consecutive Force Palm hits while maintaining altitude removes approximately one-third of Tenebrum's health bar, making the fight a matter of completing this sequence three times with sufficient Spirit resource to sustain it. Spirit is the resource that powers Force Palm; when it depletes, players must hold both sticks simultaneously to begin restoring it, necessitating cover behind one of the arena's stone pillars during the restoration animation, as Tenebrum continues making AoE attacks during this period.

The recommended strategy is to use the stone pillars as operational bases — climbing atop a pillar, waiting for Tenebrum to hover in the arena's center during its AoE charge sequence, then launching into the air and landing two or three Force Palm hits before retreating to another pillar to recharge Spirit and apply healing if needed. The rhythm of the fight is: ascend, strike, retreat, recover, repeat. Most players who struggle with Tenebrum are not failing at the execution of individual Force Palm hits but at the Spirit management between assault sequences — running out of Spirit at altitude and being unable to sustain gliding, or attempting a fourth Palm strike when Spirit is already too depleted to maintain the attack. The fight is "more confusing than it is difficult," as guides frequently note: understanding that weapon attacks are useless and that Force Palm from altitude is the only solution is the cognitive challenge, after which the execution is methodical rather than technically demanding.
