Assassin

The Assassin is Marathon's premier stealth Shell, an invisible predator built around ambush, misdirection, and surgical strikes. Active Camo provides true invisibility, while Smoke Screen creates zones of optical disruption that Assassin can use as cover for extended cloaked movement through the Shroud trait. High skill ceiling, extremely rewarding when mastered.

Abilities

Prime Ability: Smoke Screen

Throw a disc that emits a line of smoke fields, disrupting enemy optics for anyone who enters. Both PvE robots and PvP opponents are affected, enemies inside smoke cannot see clearly, making Smoke Screen invaluable for breaking line-of-sight, covering extractions, and enabling the Shroud trait to maintain extended invisibility.

Tactical Ability: Active Camo

Activates camouflage systems for true, full-body invisibility. The cloak is disrupted by offensive actions (shooting, using abilities), taking damage, or certain movements. Mastering the rhythm of engaging, breaking cloak, and repositioning before the enemy can react is the core of high-level Assassin play.

Trait: Shadow Dive

Deploying Smoke Screen upon impact with the ground negates fall damage. This enables aggressive drops from height: leap off buildings, throw the disc on impact, and land safely inside your own smoke cloud with Shroud keeping you invisible.

Trait: Shroud

Automatically activates invisibility when entering smoke clouds, even after performing offensive actions that would normally break the cloak. This is Assassin's signature trait: use Smoke Screen to create safe zones where you can attack freely without losing your camouflage.

Playstyle Guide

Assassin's core loop is positioning, patience, and precision. Cloak to approach, uncloak to fire the first shot, then immediately reposition using the cloak reset. The Smoke Screen + Shroud combo is especially powerful: throw smoke into a corridor, enter it, and fire freely at enemies who cannot see you while you retain invisibility.

Assassin's greatest weakness is Recon: Echo Pulse reveals all enemies including invisible ones. If the enemy team has a Recon, your invisibility is significantly less effective. Play more conservatively and use smoke to break line-of-sight when the pulse is active.

Tips & Strategies

• Smoke Screen + Shroud is your bread and butter, never engage a full squad without smoke coverage.
• Shadow Dive creates high-ground drop attack opportunities that enemy squads rarely expect.
• Use cloak to disengage and reset: don't try to fight through a losing engagement, vanish and reapproach.
• Pair with high burst-damage weapons: SMGs and shotguns reward the close-range ambush approach.
• Stay aware of enemy Recon Shells: their Echo Pulse will reveal you and hard-counter your entire kit.
