Weapons Overview: All Weapon Types in Marathon

Complete overview of all weapon categories in Marathon — 8 types, 4 ammo types, and 28+ weapons at launch. Includes S-tier picks, ammo type explanations, and weapon rarity system.

Weapons

Marathon launches with 28 weapons across 8 categories, using 4 ammo types. Each weapon has 15–31 compatible mods that are equipped outside of matches, and comes in multiple rarities that alter function or grant powerful effects at higher tiers. Your pre-match weapon selections are drawn from your Vault and Armory, funded with Credits.

Ammo Types

  • Light Rounds: standard ballistic ammunition. Used by SMGs, some pistols and ARs. High availability.
  • Heavy Rounds: high-damage ballistic ammunition for pistols, ARs, and machine guns. Lower ammo availability.
  • Volt Battery: energy ammunition for Volt weapons. Triage's Battery Overcharge adds EMP effects to Volt shield breaks.
  • MIPS: rare precision ammunition for the most powerful sniper-class weapons.

Weapon Rarities

Weapons come in rarities from Gray (Standard) to Gold (Prestige). Higher rarities don't just increase stats: they can fundamentally alter how a weapon functions or grant powerful additional effects on kills. Gold-rarity weapons are some of the most valuable extraction targets in the game.

Weapon Categories

Pistols

Reliable sidearms for when your primary runs dry. The Magnum MC (33 damage, Heavy Rounds) is a powerhouse finisher. The V11 Punch (25 damage, Volt Battery) synergizes with Triage's Battery Overcharge for EMP shield breaks. The CE Tactical Sidearm (20 damage, 18-round magazine) offers high ammo efficiency.

Assault Rifles

The most versatile weapon category. The M77 Assault Rifle (15 damage, 24 rounds) is the reliable all-rounder. The Impact HAR (24 damage, Heavy Rounds) hits harder at the cost of magazine size. The V75 SCAR brings Volt damage for energy-focused loadouts.

SMGs

High fire rate, close-range weapons ideal for Assassin and aggressive Destroyers. The BRRT SMG (11 damage, 35-round magazine) is S-tier, its massive mag allows extended suppression. The Bully SMG (15 damage, 23 rounds) balances fire rate and stopping power.

Shotguns

Devastating at close range. The WSTR Combat Shotgun (15 damage per pellet, 2-round chamber, 4M range) is S-tier despite the small magazine, its raw per-shot damage and wide spread make it a terrifying ambush weapon. The V85 Circuit Breaker (20.4 damage, Volt) offers Volt EMP synergy for Triage.

Precision Rifles

Mid-to-long range weapons for controlled engagements. The Stryder M1T (31 damage, 12 rounds) and Hardline PR (23 damage, 14 rounds) are both S-tier for their damage-per-shot efficiency. The Repeater HPR (38 damage, 9 rounds) hits the hardest per shot of any non-sniper weapon but demands accuracy.

Machine Guns

Sustained fire platforms for suppression and UESC clearing. The Conquest LMG (16 damage, 36 rounds, 60M range) offers excellent sustained output. The Demolition HMG (31.5 damage, Heavy Rounds) is a monster but demands careful ammo management.

Sniper Rifles

175M+ range precision weapons for long-distance dominance. The Longshot (69.5 damage, 4-round magazine) and Outland (74 damage, MIPS ammo) are the top picks for wide-open maps like Perimeter. The V99 Channel Rifle brings Volt damage for energy builds.

Railguns

The highest single-shot damage weapons in the game. The Ares RG (136 damage, Volt Battery) is S-tier, one shot from an Ares ends most engagements. The V00 Zeus RG (120 damage, 199 accuracy, 155M range) offers the most precision in the category. Both are high-reward, high-skill weapons that punish missed shots severely.

S-Tier Weapons Summary

  • BRRT SMG: 35-round magazine, consistent high-fire-rate pressure
  • WSTR Combat Shotgun: devastating close-range burst damage
  • Hardline PR: precision rifle with excellent damage and mag size balance
  • Stryder M1T: high-damage precision rifle for mid-range dominance
  • Ares RG: 136 damage railgun, one-shots most targets with a good hit
