Perimeter
Perimeter is the first map most runners learn Marathon on β and deliberately so. Set in the outer residential and light-commercial districts of the Tau Ceti IV settlement, Perimeter offers the most accessible introduction to Marathon's core extraction loop: moderate enemy density, clearly readable sightlines, multiple exfil points spread across the map edges, and a Heat buildup rate that gives new runners more time to make mistakes before the zone becomes dangerous. Veterans return to Perimeter not out of necessity but for efficient, low-stress loot runs when building stash between harder deployments.
The map's design reflects the early history of the colony β these are the neighborhoods and market districts that functioned normally before the UESC AI uprising. Abandoned shops still have inventory. Residential apartments contain personal valuables. The contrast between the domestic setting and the AI-occupied danger creates a specific atmospheric tension that distinguishes Perimeter from the more overtly industrial or corporate environments of the other maps.
Key Zones
- Market Row β highest foot-traffic loot density with moderate AI presence; ideal first-run objective
- Residential Blocks A-D β scattered but consistent loot with lower enemy encounters; safe for new runners
- Outer Wall Gate β military-grade loot caches at the cost of Enforcer and Combat Drone heavy presence
- Arachne Sensor Relay Station β CyberAcme and Arachne contract objectives; tech salvage concentration
Strategic Notes
Perimeter rewards a methodical, zone-by-zone approach over aggressive map traversal. With 6 teams maximum per instance and a forgiving Heat buildup rate, there is usually time to loot several key zones before rival runners and heat-escalated AI make the map dangerous. The outer wall gate section is tempting due to military loot quality but is consistently the highest PvP engagement zone β approach it in late deployment when rival runners have already exfiltrated or been eliminated, reducing ambush risk.
