Extraction Guide

Extraction is the goal of every Marathon match. You enter with a loadout, scavenge loot, and must make it to an extraction point and successfully exit to keep everything you found. Die before extracting, and your entire loadout, the gear you brought in plus everything you found, is dropped for other players to take. The extraction decision is always the highest-stakes moment of any run.

Extraction Point Types

Standard (Team) Exfil

Each squad has a specific extraction point that only their team can activate. This is the safest extraction option: it doesn't broadcast your location to other players and doesn't attract UESC forces. The downside is that the point is fixed and may require traveling through contested zones to reach.

Guarded Exfil

A shared extraction point that any team can activate. Activating it triggers two things simultaneously: UESC security forces spawn around the beacon, and a visible light beam broadcasts your location to all other players on the map. This is the riskiest extraction option: you'll be fighting UESC while potentially every surviving squad races toward you to contest the extract. The reward: it's often more centrally located and doesn't require reaching a specific team point.

Downed Exfil

Added in update 1.0.5, Downed Exfil allows extraction even when in a downed state. This prevents runs from being completely lost when a player goes down near an extraction point. Specific mechanic details depend on proximity to the exfil zone when downed.

Keys & Locked Rooms

Keys are physical items found in the world that unlock high-value rooms containing rare implants, Cores, and faction materials. Keys persist between runs: if you find a key in one match, you can bring it into future matches to unlock the room it accesses. This rewards map knowledge: once you know which key opens which room, you can plan efficient loot routes.

The Vault

Successfully extracted loot is stored in your Vault, persistent off-match storage. Your Vault items can be brought into future runs as part of your loadout. CyberAcme faction's Rank 3 upgrade expands Vault capacity, which is one of the most impactful early investments. Your Vault is wiped at the end of each season.

Extraction Strategy Tips

• Know your extraction point location before committing to deep looting, the route there might be contested.
• When you have a full backpack of valuable items, seriously consider extracting rather than pushing for more.
• Guarded Exfil beacon: activate it only if you have the firepower to hold the position for the extraction timer.
• Watch for other squads activating Guarded Exfil, you can intercept them during their vulnerable extraction window.
