UESC Enemies Guide: All Enemy Types

All PvE enemies in Marathon — UESC robots and native Tau Ceti IV fauna. Behavior, abilities, weaknesses, and loot drops for every enemy type in Season 1.

UESC Enemies

The United Earth Space Council (UESC) patrols Tau Ceti IV with an army of security robots programmed to eliminate all unauthorized Runners on sight. Unlike generic game enemies, UESC robots are genuinely intelligent, they flank, call for backup, use grenades, go invisible, and even mimic Runner callouts to set traps. Never dismiss them as background noise.

UESC Robot Units

UESC Recruit

Threat Level: Low | Can Fly: Yes

The basic UESC patrol unit. Recruits initially avoid contact but engage immediately when a Runner is spotted. They can fly, which makes their patrol routes less predictable than ground-bound enemies. Dangerous in groups despite their low individual threat, a pair of Recruits alerting each other can quickly escalate. Easiest enemy to defeat one-on-one.

UESC Assault Trooper

Threat Level: Medium | Type: Standard

Significantly harder than Recruits. Assault Troopers carry standard armor plus an additional shield layer, requiring sustained fire to eliminate. They actively push Runners, maintain cover, and call for reinforcements. Expect to burn a full magazine on each one at standard rarity. Commonly found in high-loot interior zones.

UESC Assault Commander

Threat Level: High | Type: Mini-Boss

The Commander-tier version of the Assault Trooper. Much more aggressive, higher health pool, and drops valuable loot on death. Prioritizing UESC Commanders is worth the risk, they frequently drop keys, faction materials, and above-average gear. On Outpost, they also drop Supply Clearance Codes needed for Command Wing access.

UESC Ghost

Threat Level: Elite | Special: Invisibility

The most dangerous standard UESC unit. Ghosts use a cape mechanism to achieve near-full invisibility, similar to the Assassin Runner Shell. Limited detection range but extremely dangerous at close quarters. Recon's Echo Pulse hard-counters Ghosts by revealing their position before they can engage. Listen for movement audio and watch for subtle shimmer effects to detect them without Recon.

UESC Grenadier

Threat Level: Medium | Special: Explosive Combat

Specializes in grenades to create chaos, force Runners out of cover, and zone off doorways. Grenadiers don't need direct line of sight to be effective, they lob explosives over walls and around corners. Closing distance quickly before they can throw is the most effective counter.

UESC Grenadier Commander

Threat Level: High | Type: Mini-Boss

Commander-tier grenadier with "thick skin" and high resilience to damage. Significantly more dangerous than standard Grenadiers and drops rare loot. Treat them like a mini-boss: clear surrounding Recruits first, then focus fire.

UESC Scout Commander

Threat Level: Elite | Special: Long-Range Precision

Long-range sniper/blast threats described by Bungie as "more brutal than a human player." Scout Commanders engage at extreme range with high-damage precision shots that can down a Runner in seconds. Prioritize eliminating them before engaging other enemies. Use cover aggressively and never stand still in a Scout Commander's sightline.

Native Fauna

Ticks

Small crawling creatures that swarm in groups when they detect Runners. Individually weak but dangerous in numbers. Common in Dire Marsh's flooded areas.

Birds (Toucans)

Avoidable native birds that flee when threatened. Not a combat threat, but can be killed for optional loot opportunities. Killing them may attract nearby UESC attention due to noise.

General UESC Combat Tips

  • UESC robots flank intelligently: never assume they'll attack from the direction you heard them.
  • Recon's Echo Pulse reveals all UESC units in range, including invisible Ghosts, invaluable before entering high-patrol zones.
  • Rook's Blend makes all UESC non-hostile: the only way to traverse heavy patrol zones without combat.
  • UESC engagements attract other Runner squads: keep fights short to avoid advertising your position.
  • After launch balance patches nerfed UESC health, they're faster to kill but still dangerous in numbers.
