Thief

The Thief is Marathon's loot-optimization Shell: designed to find, acquire, and extract more value per run than any other Runner. X-Ray Visor highlights every container and enemy by the color of their most valuable item, while the Pickpocket Drone literally steals gear from enemy inventories. The Grapple Device provides exceptional mobility for escape and traversal, and The Finer Things passive rewards a full backpack with improved combat performance.

Abilities

Prime Ability: Pickpocket Drone

Deploys a small, pilotable butterfly-shaped drone. While piloting the drone, you can: fire a hooked tether that ejects the single highest-value item from an enemy Runner's inventory, collect loose loot scattered in the world, and remotely open doors. The drone is Thief's signature tool: use it to steal from enemies who have just extracted loot from locked rooms, or to safely loot areas where your physical body would be exposed.

Tactical Ability: Grapple Device

Launches a grapple hook that propels Thief toward any aimed surface or structure. Provides excellent vertical and horizontal movement for escape, traversal, reaching elevated loot locations, and quickly repositioning during combat. The Finer Things passive also accelerates Grapple Device recharge based on how many items you're carrying, a full backpack is both your offense and your defense.

Trait: X-Ray Visor

Highlights hostiles and containers in the color of their most valuable item. Containers are revealed through walls: you can route your entire loot path before entering a building. Enemies require line of sight, but aiming at a hostile briefly hacks their optics, disrupting their vision of you. Never waste time on low-value containers again.

Trait: The Finer Things

Increased weapon handling and accelerated Grapple Device recharge based on the number of items currently in the backpack. A completely full inventory makes Thief into a surprisingly strong fighter, the Shell rewards committing to a full extraction run over dropping mediocre items.

Tips & Strategies

• Use X-Ray Visor before entering any building to map the optimal loot path through walls.
• Pickpocket Drone is most valuable right after another squad opens a locked room, let them do the work and steal the reward.
• Keep your backpack full to maximize The Finer Things bonus, Thief fights better with a full inventory.
• Grapple to high terrain immediately when spotted, forcing enemies to chase vertically buys extraction time.
• On Cryo Archive, use the drone to remotely open bulkheads and route through otherwise inaccessible zones.
