Apex

Apex is Marathon's hardest launch map and its most spectacular — a cluster of corporate high-rise towers connected by sky bridges, external platforms, and shared subterranean infrastructure. CyberAcme and Sekiguchi executive headquarters dominate the upper floors; the lower building sections hold corporate security facilities, underground vaults, and the most valuable locked room content available in Season 1. Apex has the highest loot quality ceiling of any map but also the steepest difficulty: only four teams share the instance at once, reducing PvP pressure slightly while the increased enemy difficulty and map complexity more than compensate.

The sky bridges connecting the tower cluster are Apex's defining strategic terrain — exposed catwalks with no cover except the bridge structure itself, they create long sightlines that sniper-equipped runners contest from elevated tower windows. Crossing a sky bridge without intelligence on what's watching it from the other towers is one of the most dangerous maneuvers in Marathon. Arachne sensor intelligence and Locus Echo Pulse are both disproportionately valuable on Apex for this reason.

  • CyberAcme HQ Floors 40-50 — highest tech loot concentration in the game; CyberAcme Tier 3-4 contract location
  • Sekiguchi Executive Tower — corporate intel objectives and rare weapon spawns
  • Sky Bridge Network — exposed traversal; key route between tower clusters but heavily sniped
  • Helipad Exfil Zones — premium exfil with contested approach; first to arrive has the advantage
  • Underground Vault Level — locked room concentration with S-tier loot potential; requires lockpick kit or Glitch Shell

Unlock and Approach

Apex requires completing 10 successful extractions on any other map before becoming available — a design choice that ensures runners experience foundational mechanics before tackling the hardest content. Approach Apex with at minimum: a full squad, Tier 2+ faction upgrades, NuCaloric consumables, and a clear plan for which tower section to prioritize. The Helipad exfil points are premium extraction locations but draw contested attention — identify a secondary exfil fallback before the deployment begins.
