Terminus
Terminus is Marathon's underground map β a vast network of transit tunnels, maintenance corridors, cargo transfer stations, and emergency shelters that run beneath the main settlement. Where Perimeter and Core are navigated by sight across open spaces, Terminus is navigated by memory and map knowledge: its interconnected tunnel system has dozens of routes between major nodes, and runners who invest in Traxus Tier 2 tunnel maps gain access to hidden shortcuts that fundamentally transform their traversal speed relative to less well-equipped rivals.
The total absence of open sky in Terminus changes every aspect of combat. Long-range weapons are nearly irrelevant β engagement distances rarely exceed 30 meters, and most firefights happen in 10-15 meter corridor stretches where SMGs and shotguns dominate absolutely. The acoustic qualities of the tunnels also make weapon noise travel further relative to surface maps, meaning suppressed weapons that are merely good on Perimeter become excellent on Terminus.
Key Zones
- Central Transit Hub β main interchange with the highest runner traffic; frequently contested for loot
- Traxus Cargo Terminal C β high-value cargo containers with Traxus contract objectives
- Deep Maintenance Sector β isolated far section with elite enemies and rare loot; rarely reached by rivals
- Emergency Shelter 7 β neutral zone with active vendor terminal access
- Access Shaft 9 β vertical shortcut connecting lower to upper tunnel levels; dangerous but fast traversal
Strategic Notes
The Terminus strategic advantage belongs to the most knowledgeable runner, not the most powerful. Invest in Traxus Tier 2 for tunnel shortcut access, use SMG or shotgun primary weapons, carry a suppressed secondary, and memorize the route from Central Transit Hub to Deep Maintenance Sector β that route contains the highest reward-to-competition ratio on the map. Runners who know Terminus well can complete deep extraction runs before rivals have finished clearing the Central Hub.
