Pfhor
Pfhor is Marathon's most aggressive Runner Shell and its highest-risk, highest-reward design β a Shell that channels the alien Pfhor warrior physiology into an offensive combat engine that grows more dangerous the more it kills. Where Cerberus tanks punishment and Void avoids it, Pfhor transforms aggression itself into survivability: every kill extends Pfhor's offensive abilities, restores health, and stacks damage bonuses that can compound into a fearsome killing streak. The name references the alien antagonists of the original Marathon trilogy, and the Shell's design philosophy honors that origin.
Pfhor is rated Expert difficulty for a reason. The Shell's sustained-killing power is enormous, but it requires constant forward pressure β passive or defensive play shuts off all of Pfhor's key mechanics. Bloodlust (the kill-streak damage stacking passive) resets after 10 seconds without a kill, meaning Pfhor players must chain engagements without pausing. Against large groups of AI constructs this is easy; in PvP or against dangerous elite enemies where engagements are slower and more deliberate, maintaining the streak requires significant skill.
Abilities
Berserker Charge (Prime Ability)
Charge forward 15 meters at extreme speed, dealing 120 damage and knocking back every enemy or Runner in the path. Each kill during an active Berserk window extends the duration by 1.5 seconds. On a 22-second cooldown, Berserker Charge is the most aggressive gap-closer in the game β but it also commits Pfhor fully to a direction. Misjudging a Charge into a wall, a dead end, or a group that is better positioned than expected is the most common cause of Pfhor deaths.
Alien Aggression (Tactical Ability)
For 8 seconds, Pfhor gains +30% damage output, +25% attack speed, immunity to stagger effects, and a 2-second cooldown reduction per kill. The 28-second cooldown means Alien Aggression is available roughly every other major engagement. When it activates mid-firefight on a runner with full Bloodlust stacks, the combined damage multiplier exceeds 70% above Pfhor's base output β making this window the highest single-target damage burst available from any Shell in the game.
Pfhor in High-Level Play
Elite Pfhor players treat the Shell less as a brawler and more as a precision weapon: identify the highest-value target, activate Alien Aggression, chain the kill into the next target before Bloodlust resets, and use Berserker Charge as a positioning tool rather than a panic dash. In squad compositions, Pfhor pairs best with Strel (Supply Drop addresses the health drain from Alien Constitution's defensive limitations) and Locus (Echo Pulse gives Pfhor advance knowledge of enemy positions to plan engagement sequences).
