Void
Void is Marathon's stealth Shell β a high-risk, high-ceiling design for experienced runners who understand that avoiding detection is more valuable than surviving detection. Among all seven launch Shells, Void has the highest skill floor and the highest skill ceiling. Played correctly, Void is the most lethal Shell in the game: Dark Cloak active camouflage allows you to position behind any enemy before they know you're there, and Threat Suppressor means each undetected kill generates zero alert β allowing chained stealth kills through an entire zone without triggering a patrol response.
Void's power is gated behind discipline. The Dark Cloak breaks the moment you fire a weapon, sprint, or take damage β meaning Void players must plan every engagement meticulously. The 6-second invisibility window is sufficient for most positioning moves, but wasteful use of Cloak in non-combat situations will leave you exposed when you need it most. New runners often struggle with Void because they treat the Cloak as a panic button; veteran Void players pre-activate it before rounding corners, treating it as a proactive positioning tool rather than a reactive escape.
Abilities
Dark Cloak (Prime Ability)
Full invisibility for up to 6 seconds. Any action faster than a slow walk, any weapon fire, or any incoming damage breaks the Cloak immediately. The 30-second cooldown is the longest among all Shell prime abilities, reinforcing the need for deliberate use. At Tier 3 Arachne reputation, Void can extend Dark Cloak duration by 2 seconds, making it the best investment for stealth-focused runners.
Shadow Step (Tactical Ability)
Teleport up to 12 meters in your current movement direction, leaving a decoy hologram that attracts enemy attention for 3 seconds. Shadow Step is primarily an escape ability and a chase-breaker β rivals who track Void visually are left chasing a decoy while the real Void repositions. The 22-second cooldown makes it available in most engagements at least once.
Void in Squad and Solo Play
Void excels at solo extraction runs, particularly on high-Heat zones where the risk premium on every action is high. Stealth bypasses Heat accumulation triggers β kills made while undetected do not raise Heat as quickly as open combat. For squad play, Void functions best as a flanker and contractor: let the Cerberus or Strel engage frontally, and use Void's stealth to access locked rooms, complete contract objectives, and pick off isolated enemies from behind.
