UESC Simulacrum (Cerberus-type)
The Cerberus-type Simulacrum is the most durable and frightening standard enemy in Marathon β a construct that has replicated the Cerberus Shell's heavy defensive systems and now deploys Iron Bulwark and Seismic Slam against the runners those abilities were designed to protect. With 900 health (the highest of any non-boss entity) and the Bulwark ability blocking all frontal damage during its activation window, the Cerberus-type Simulacrum is designed specifically to force runners to think rather than fire.
The standard engagement approach fails completely against a Cerberus Simulacrum. Sustained frontal fire while the Bulwark is active deals zero damage. Explosives are the primary counter β the Ares Railgun penetrates the Bulwark shield, and EMP grenades cancel it entirely. The alternative approach is patience: wait for the Bulwark to expire, dump maximum damage during the window before it reactivates, and repeat. In a full squad scenario with coordinated fire during the Bulwark-down windows, the Cerberus Simulacrum dies in two or three cycles.
Encounter Notes
- Primary counter: EMP grenade to cancel Bulwark, then Spnkr rocket for massive damage in the open window
- Secondary counter: Ares Railgun shot directly penetrates the Bulwark shield regardless of direction
- Health: 900 β requires sustained squad focus fire; do not attempt solo without elite weapons
- Loot: Overkill LMG or Spnkr Rocket Launcher guaranteed β the best consistent heavy weapon drop in the game
