The Apex Sniper is the highest single-shot damage ballistic weapon in Marathon — a bolt-action precision rifle that can eliminate most enemies and almost all unshielded runners with a single well-placed shot. At 180 damage with 98 accuracy rating and a 250-meter effective range, the Apex Sniper defines the "hard counter to Locus" archetype: fast-moving runners who believe they can sprint across exposed ground are vulnerable to a runner waiting patiently with an Apex Sniper at range. Its name is no accident — it was designed specifically for the long sightlines of the Apex map's sky bridges and exterior sections.

Combat Application

The Apex Sniper demands absolute positional discipline. The bolt-action cycle means one shot per engagement window — a miss is catastrophic, and enemies will take cover or close distance before the next shot is available. Use Locus Echo Pulse or Arachne sensor data to identify targets before exposing your position to fire. The Blackout SR suppressed variant is recommended for runners who want to maintain position after the first shot; the Apex Sniper's standard unsuppressed shot reveals position and invites immediate counter-fire.
